Boone Lake Dam Management District The Town Council of the Town of Exeter voted and approved the creation of the Boone Lake Dam Management District in 2007 due to the increasing costs of maintaining the Boone Lake community properties i.e. State Dam No. 219, boat launches and the clubhouse, and the Boone Lake Improvement Association's inability to keep up with those costs. The district was formed pursuant to the authority granted under enabling legislation that had been promoted by the State of Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management. On December 11, 2007, the Town Council appointed the initial members of the Board of Directors and the first official meeting was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008.
Object The object of the BLDMD is to apportion among and collect from the owners of property on Boone Lake, the costs of maintaining and repairing the Boone Lake community properties, and to pay the costs of maintenance, utilities and taxes for those properties. The BLDMD may raise money and may borrow money and repay it through the sale and redemption of bonds or other securities.
Members and Meetings The BLDMD is comprised of its members (all Boone Lake residents), and a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors are elected every 2 years and are unpaid volunteers. There are 4 quarterly meetings and all members are encouraged to attend. Each parcel of land accounts for one only vote, so members who live on the same parcel of land must determine who will be the designated voter and submit that name to the Board.
